Young Writers Contest Winners Meeting Saturday February 15, 2014



Our St. Joseph Writers Guild will be meeting this Saturday, February 15, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church, 302 South 10th, St. Joseph, Missouri 64501. (two blocks south of the Joyce Raye Patterson Senior Citizens Center.  Park in the lot south of the church with an entrance from 10th street and enter door on south side.) 

The program will recognize the winners of our Young Writers Contest.  The winners have been invited to join us at 1:30.

ENTRY GUIDELINES

Poetry

1.         The work must be your own.
2.         The poem must have 1000 words or less.
3.         The poem must be typed or data formatted.
4.         The poem should be single spaced in 12 point font.
5.         The author’s name should not be under title of poem.
6.         Cover sheet information must include:
                        Name
                        Complete Address
                        Telephone Number with Area Code
                        Email Address
                        School
                        Grade in school
                        Category:  Poetry
                        Title of Poem
7.         Be sure to use grammar and spelling check before submitting.

Fiction/Non-Fiction

1.         The work must be your own.
2.         The fiction or non-fiction work must be 500 to 1500 words.
3.         The work must be typed or data formatted.
4.         The work must be double spaced in 12 point font.
5.         The author’s name should not be under title.
6.         Cover sheet information must include:

Fundraiser at McAlister's Deli, Tuesday, December 10, 2013


This December 10, 2013, fundraiser will provide funds for our sixth annual Young Writers Contest.  The contest is open to students in Northeast Kansas/Northwest Missouri in middle school and high school.  Prizes will be awarded Saturday, February 15, 2014.

November 16, 2013, Meeting of St. Joseph Writers Guild



The St. Joseph Writers Guild will meet at
Joyce Raye Patterson Senior Citizens Center
100 South 10th, St. Joseph, Missouri 
Saturday November 16, 2013, 1 p.m.

All writers, all ages are welcome.
Please invite your friends interested in writing.

The program will be sharing book reviews of novels or books we have enjoyed.  You can also share the novel ideas you have in your head or that you are writing this month.

Our silent auction returns this month with a twist.  This time please bring items that can be regifted to the home of someone that may have different taste from yours.  Of course, books are always a welcome silent auction item.  It is never too soon to do Christmas shopping.

Special Guest Speaker Sarah Kovac Saturday October 19

The St. Joseph Writers Guild meeting will be Saturday, October 19, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Joyce Raye Patterson Senior Citizens Center in downtown St. Joseph, Missouri. 

Our special guest speaker, Sarah Kovac.

She is a wife, mother, speaker and author.  A disability forces her to do most things with her feet, from chopping onions to brushing her son’s teeth.  Her days are a little different, but when it comes to the important stuff, she and you are the same.

Sarah’s book In Capable Arms Living a Life Embraced by Grace is now available.

Please join us and be prepared to be inspired.

September 21, 2013 St. Joseph Writers Guild Meeting

Our Saturday September 21 St. Joseph Writers Guild meeting will be at 1 p.m. at the Joyce Raye Patterson Senior Citizens Center. 

Missouri Western professor Dr. John Tapia has been invited to be our speaker.  He edited the St. Joseph Anthology Little Known Stories of Our Town.

We also have some important issues that we will need to discuss in a short business meeting following his presentation.

As always please bring your successes, your works in progress, your challenges, and whatever you have writing related to share.

It should be a great meeting!

Guest Speaker Regina Sirois Saturday July 20 at St. Joseph Writers Guild



The St. Joseph Writers Guild will be meeting Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Joyce Raye Patterson Senior Citizens Center, 100 South 10th, St. Joseph, Missouri. 

Julie Casey has arranged a special guest speaker, Regina Sirois.

Author Regina Sirois received national recognition through the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award (ABNA) competition. Her book, On Little Wings, was the winner in the young adult division of the original 5,000 entries through a series of judging and advancements conducted by Publishers Weekly, Amazon.com, and a panel assembled by Penguin Publishing. After having already been self-published, it is now published by Penguin.

Regina Sirois is a native to Kansas City currently living in Olathe with her husband and two young girls. Publisher's Weekly describes her debut novel, On Little Wings, as a heartwarming tale of reconnection and redemption. On Little Wings was launched January of this year it has been warmly received, featured on the Amazon Kindle home page, reached the #7 best selling literary fiction book on the Kindle, and received nearly 300 reviews, with an average score over 4 stars. Any of these accomplishments are rare for a first time author.
